Since 2013, Dialogue with Three Chords has been performing The Krampus, a play with songs, at various non-traditional spaces. We’ve performed it in bars and a catering loft on our own and in two church halls in partnership with BROOKLYNONE Productions.
The Krampus is a play about a group of friends gathering together in a Brooklyn bar on Christmas Eve. Over the course of the night, songs are sung, traumas are revealed, and stories of the Krampus are told.
The play is based on playwright Stephen Gracia’s own Christmas tradition, which was referenced four years ago in a Village Voice article

written by author and media critic Jennifer Pozner.
Over the last ten years, Dialogue with Three Chords has been in residence at Mr. Dennehy’s Irish Pub (which sadly closed its doors in 2018) and Von Bar in NYC. Every fourth Thursday, we present three new plays, written by Stephen, directed by Michael LoPorto, and produced by Edie Nugent, along with sets by incredible local musicians ranging from Punk to Folk.
Due to Covid, we had to move everything online and have been hosting videos of plays on
facebook.com/dthreec,
youtube.com/user/DthreeC, and
instagram.com/dialoguewiththreechords .
In the original version of The Krampus, the songs were done a cappella, the idea being that these were purely spontaneous, drunken, bar songs. Gradually, director and co-founder Michael LoPorto wrote music for the songs and began backing up the actors on guitar during the performances.
It has long been Michael’s vison to curate an album of Krampus covers, reaching out to the brilliant artists we’ve worked with over the years to offer new interpretations of songs from the play, and we are thrilled to be offering it to for free during this unusual holiday season.
If you like what you hear, please visit the artists’ websites and purchase some of their amazing work or come see them when we can all once again return to the stages, the halls, and the alternative spaces.
Click on “info” for each track to see their bios and contact info.
If you would like to see The Krampus, it will premiere on youtube at 8pm on 12/17/20 and will remain available on our youtube channel, Instagram, and facebook.
We are so grateful to all of the actors and musicians have devoted their time and creativity to The Krampus over the years. Thank you and Happy Holidays!!
